Is it possible to setup remote access to Home Assistant without port fowarding?

I live in a building where we do not have a direct internet connection. Instead we are connected to a local network with the other apartments and is then connected to the internet. In this setup it is not possible for me to configure port forwarding for remote access to my home assistant installation.

Is there an alternative to port forwarding? did anyone build a service my Home Assistant can dial into and that I can send commands to?

Yes. You can use any vpn type connection. I use imPcRemote found at http://remote-control-desktop.com/

The cost is $30 a year and I have various linux and various windows computers in my home. I have not used it on a Raspberry Pi but I’m fairly certain it would work.

I remote into a PC (any on my lan) and simply go to home assistant to send the command.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I probably need to be a little more clear in what I am looking for. I would like to be able to call the Home Assistant API from the internet such that I can execute a scene from IFTTT.

Maybe using a online MQTT service would be the way to go?

I’m able to accomplish what you are trying to do using node-red and online free mqtt provider called FLESPI.

Use Tailscale it’s free
