When i set the pi up i believe i configured it all through WiFi booting from a USB. Since then i have plugged a Ethernet cable in thinking it would favor the wire, but I don’t know if it is. Would home assistant automatically detect the Ethernet cable and use it?
I only ask as i notice the pi regularly goes offline during busy times with high network traffic, the only way to get it back is resetting the router or pi. the pi vanishes from the network all together.
When looking in supervisor > System > Host > IP address, Change my IPv4 and IPv6 is connected via DHCP to the router. But in Eth0 it says both are disabled.
I didn’t even consider that and i log into the router quite allot. I didn’t think it did, till i checked but yeah, you’re right, shows it via tiny icons next to each connection.
As suspected its using the wifi. Don’t suppose you know an easy way to change it. I assume if i put a static address in the eth0 and disable the wifi it will probably do.
it is not router to decide which interface to be used, it is OS level decision. You should see both wifi and ethernet connection in router before moving any further. These interfaces are independent each other, different mac ids and should be assigned different ip addresses. When you are sure you have an ethernet connection, try to disconnect your wifi from pi?
This has helped me allot too, for some reason i assumed it would share the ip being once device. So once adding a static ip in eth0 i spotted both connections in my router. Hoping this may resolve a couple of issues im having. Thank you!
