Is there a decent single device for motion sensor + IR?

Asking if anyone knows of and can recommend a single decent device that is both a motion sensor and IR transmitter/blaster.

Currently I have a shelly motion sensor and broadlink IR transmitter in my living room. The shelly is used for several presence automations, and the broadlink is used for controlling AC units.

I’d like to expand similar functionality to 3 other rooms but would really prefer if there was a single device capable of doing what both of these do (and of course plays nice with HA). But I’ve searched around and can’t find any single device capable of this.

Does anyone know of some device or have recommendations for doing this?

Thanks!

It would be a niche combo, so really dont think you will find one premade.

The IR blaster/sensor will have to be placed so the line of sight fits with the other device and the frequency will have to fit that one too.
The line of sight might not fit your motion sensor placement and the uncertainty in frequency selection makes it hard to produce enough to make it worthwhile.

ESPhome is probably your best bet to get that combo, but this would not even be able to solve the line of sight issue.

Sure it could.
Just mount the IR blaster on a cable and it can have pretty much any position.

My ESP is placed on the back of my son’s TV and has one IR diode placed on an arm out in front of the TV

Behind the tv is probably not a good spot for a motion sensor.

That wasn’t the point.
But the ESP can still be placed where ever and only the IR diode and motion sensor being visible.

As noted above, it’s unusual to combine these two features. The only product I found with both is the Aqara Hub G3, which is a camera with motion sensing along with an IR blaster, and allegedly has a Matter update to make it HA-friendly (caveat: cameras are not part of Matter yet). It’s also a Zigbee hub and somewhat expensive, so it’s certainly not ideal.

But before rolling your own from scratch, consider the option of modifying an existing device. There are a number of ESPhome-friendly IR controllers, including the Kinkony KC868-UAir which is designed to be upgraded, going as far as including an I2C plug on the back to add new sensors. Good luck finding a PIR sensor with I2C interface however… mmWave presence yes, but they take a few seconds to trigger. So either solder a PIR to the board manually, or just continue using separate devices.

Thanks for the replies. I didn’t consider the different line of sight placement for each device because for all the rooms I have a single placement of both devices would work fine.

The Aqara Hub looks nice, but it’s over double the cost of the 2 separate devices I already have now, so not ideal.

I’ve never done anything with ESP but perhaps it’s now time to research it.

Thanks.
