Is this a good idea? DIY Siren horn doorbell

So ive been planning on ordering a couple of things, and i just want to see if it is a good idea.
First, a sonoff with tasmota
second, an alarm siren https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07P1FNJTG/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?smid=A1J90DLMJQS3GD&psc=1
What i am assuming is i can turn on the siren from an automation by turning on the sonoff. I think it just makes sound when it is powered.
Would this work? thanks in advance

Sure. You will need a mains to 12V DC power supply if you dont have 12V DC available. You can turn the AC power to the 12V DC power supply that runs the horn on or off with any sonoff.

As you have asked this question I’m guessing you don’t have a lot of electrical wiring experience so a better idea would be to use a Sonoff SV just to switch the 12VDC. No mains wiring required.

Another option would be to purchase one of the S26 Sonoffs and just plug the horn power supply into that.

thanks a lot. I will buy them. Is the SV just the same thing but lower voltage? Im confused

Yes it is. Also see the last line I just added to my post, may be a better option. No wiring required at all.

The siren turning off may sound a little odd depending on how quickly the voltage discharges from your 12V DC power supply when you turn it off.

thanks. Also thanks for showing me itead.cc

Shipping can take a month or two from China if you don’t choose express post. Amazon may be more expensive but quicker depending on where you are.

That siren only takes 350mA so if you get a 12V 500mA plug pack to power it it should turn off pretty quick.

To expand on this, you could set up a home automation system that not only triggers the siren but also adds more functionality to your doorbell. For instance, you could integrate it with smart home platforms like Google Home or Amazon Alexa to receive voice notifications when someone rings the doorbell. This would require some additional programming and configuration, but it can enhance the overall utility of your DIY doorbell.

Regarding the alarm siren you linked, it seems like a suitable choice, but do check its compatibility with the Sonoff device you plan to use. Compatibility is crucial to ensure that the Sonoff can effectively control the siren. Reading product reviews and seeking advice from others who may have tried a similar setup can be helpful.
If you’re open to alternatives, I found the Ryobi horn. It’s another option worth exploring, and it might offer features or benefits that align better with your specific needs. Always remember to research and compare products before making a final decision.
