Is this more reliable than google, alexa, etc?

Totally new here. I have a handful of smart lights, smart plugs, a couple Google audios (like chromecast but for music only), as well as a JBL google smart speaker and a JBL google smart screen which is kind of like the google home screen but made by JBL.

It normally works fine but then all of a sudden it just wont work. Everything has great wifi signal and nothing is setup wrong.

Is HA more reliable? Is HA even an alternative to google assistant or does it work with it? I’m totally brand new to all this.

Also I tried to search but didn’t find much. Thanks!

It requires a bit of upkeep. New releases happen every month and you should spend up to 30 minutes every month reading the breaking changes and making any necessary adjustments. Most months this will take less than 5 minutes, most changes won’t affect you.

It also depends on what hardware you choose. SD cards can wear out quite quickly if you use a Pi and SD card.

I would also add, unless you are the sort who enjoys tinkering with tech, not just using it and expecting everything you try to work first time. Then it may not be for you. Try HA in a VM on whatever computer you use first to see if its for you. It will be easy migrate any setup you make in the VM to whatever hardware you chose.
