Is this weird behavior?

No idea in which forum section this should go…

Today, I looked at Settings->Automation and it indicated that a light was turned on a few minutes earlier – but the light wasn’t on. I toggled it and it turned right on. A few minutes later the next light that is supposed to turn on did turn on. What the heck happened?

The front fell off.
Yes, search it in YouBoob…

Hint: not enough information…

Maybe it was something with a lost connection for a short period.
Boolean sensors and controls in ESPHome seems to not go to unavailable/unknown when connection is lost, but return to one of the state of false or true (off or on).
Maybe it is the same with your light.

Quite obvious what happened!

How is the bulb connected to home assistant. Wifi, zigbee, matter? And the brand

The following day, the lamp turned on at the expected time. Note that it has worked for years without any issues.

From the information supplied, I would tend to guess, based on recent solar activity, that you may have experienced a mini Carrington Event.
Good to hear you survived and your light is working again after one missed automation cycle in many years. Keep us posted if this extraordinary event should recur.

I read the initial post as the light was marked as turned on by itself.
From the extra info in the post that followed it seems that there might be an automation that should turn the light on and that the light did not turn on.
This sound more like an issue with the device then. Maybe it is too old and you are seeing the first sign of dieing electric parts inside it.

Sorry for having wasted everyone’s time - I screwed up. I had forgotten that I had added a random time delay after sunset, and the two days where the lamp didn’t turn on, the random number must have been close to the max I had defined. Nothing wrong with HA - just my memory.

Like I said, the front fell off!
