Issue connecting Aqara Mini Switches and Third Reality Outlets to router devices, only connects to coordinator

I am running a SONOFF Zigbee 3.0 USB Dongle with my Home Assistant, and I’m trying to connect some Aqara Mini Switches and Third Reality outlets to my Zigbee network. I’ve been trying to add them to the network in the location they will be used, but when I set HA to discover new Zigbee devices, it never detects them. If I move into range of the coordinator, they are discovered without issues. But of course if I then move them to where I want to use them, they can’t communicate. Is there some way I can manually set the route of a given device if the discover isn’t working with the router devices? Am I doing something else wrong?

I’m assuming you are using ZHA (HomeAssistant’s built in zigbee integration).

If so, just follow these steps:

  • Find the zigbee router (mains powered zigbee device) closest to your final device’s location
  • Open the device page in HA > click the 3 dots next to “Reconfigure” > Add devices via this device
  • Follow the usual pairing steps for your Aqara / 3rd Reality outlets

Awesome, thanks. I hope it’s that easy!

I have that a try but had no luck. I had a Third Reality button and a Third Reality outlet both in pairing mode next to a device that is already connected and functional. I tried to add devices via that device, but nothing was discovered. I viewed logs and there was nothing displayed. Any other suggestions?

Do you have ZigBee router + sensors attached to it? Can I ask you which sensor + Zigbee router + Dongle combination you are using? I am trying to find a right Zigbee router but cannot find what people are using for Aqara sensors + Sonoff Zigbee 3.0 dongle combination.

I ended up buying Aqara smart plug (model: ZNCZ12LM) and so far its working well.

  • Sensors : Aqara motion, temperature/humidity sensors
  • Router: Aqara smart plug
  • Sonoff USB 3.0 dongle for coordinator
