Issue with Kasa smart plug

I bought a Kasa outdoor smart plug with 2 sockets. Somehow the names are duplicated. But even worse, if I add an action to turn off Plug 1 and Plug 2, only one socket is shut off. It gets even weirder though.

Is there any way I can unpair this device and start over so to speak? It’s Wi-Fi based. I would think I’d remove it from the Tapo and Alexa apps as well. I think one or both of those apps may have caused the issue!

-Thanks

Delete the device from Settings → Devices & Services → TP-Link.

I don’t seem to have the option to delete the device, only disable.

What if I unplug the smart plug as well?

-Thanks

I have a TP-Link Outdoor Smart Switch (KP400) that has 3 entities:

  • OutdoorsString is for the right socket (Plug 2).
  • OutddorsTree is for the left socket (Plug 1).
  • TP-Link_Outdoors acts like a group switch, i.e. it switches the other two on and off together if I need to; I’m not using it, so I could disable the entity, but so far, it hasn’t bothered me, and I address the other two separately

That seems more normal. I have 4 entities and they behave odd. For example this shuts off only one of the outlets:

You might have to

  1. delete it from the Kasa/Tapo App on your device,
  2. remove the whole device from HA
    and then
  3. add it back to the Kasa/Tapo App

Might need a restart or two in between.

Where exactly are you removing the device from HA? Under Settings → Devices I only have the option to disable it. And the other options below.

Click on

in the top left panel.

That will bring up the TP-Link Smart Home integration page.

From there use the three dots in the header line just above what your screenshot shows - NOT the ones for the individual devices:

I don’t seem to have a delete option here either. must be in the wrong place.

Yes, you are in the wrong place.
You took a different route and ended up on a different place.

Finally found it. The delete option was hidden, I had to scroll down to see it.

-Thanks

The problem here seems to be cause by Tapo app confusion when installing the Kasa EP40. It took me 3 attempts to install this using the Tapo app! At one point it was “seeing double”. Sometimes it would complete the setup and the devices were available but unresponsive. Junk!

The plug finally installed correctly and I wound up with the plug 1 & 2 and the main device in HA. Thanks for your help.
