Issues with connecting

Hi!

Start this out with saying i am a totalt beginner with smart home.

I bought a house that allready had smart home automation units such as light switches, outside lights, cameras, sensors etc.

I started asking around what control unit to use and got recommended the home assistant green with the skyconnect usb. I have fibaro light switched and sensors and such. The outside lights and the camera is Aeotech.

I got the unit today and started installing and managed to connect to my chromecast and find the skyconnect which i chose to use with Zigbee home automation.
I have been trying all day to connect with my lights, follow this guide from fibaro

Now i gave up and need help so i found this community. I have been watching youtube videos and other guides but everyone says it is super easy to connect and no issues at all.

I cant seem to connect and i don’t know what the manual is referring to when it mentions the main controller and security mode/add mode. It is not finding the aeutoech lights either.

Am i missing something obvious? Have I made a fool of myself and bought something that isn’t compatible with my original setup?

Please help a noob out.

I think Fibaro are Z-Wave, not Zigbee.

Aeotech do Z-Wave and Zigbee devices, but it’s likely that yours are Z-Wave as well.

Allright, thanks for the answer.

In other words i need to get rid of my zigbee dongle and buy a z wave dongle?

You can have both, but essentially, yes. It may be that the previous owners were running Z-Wave and Zigbee, so don’t throw the SkyConnect out. :smile:

Okay, yeah the previous owner used Homey which i was not into because of the subscriptions.

Any good z wave dongle to recomend to use which works with my setup?

I don’t use it myself, but there’s a list here:
