I am hoping that someone could help me with some issue I am having getting my thread network off the ground. I have HA running on a pi4 and I have a brand new ZBT-2 antenna that I have setup with the thread firmware. So far I am unable to be able to commission matter over thread devices. It fails at the step where it says checking connectivity to ha-thread-xxxx. It eventually fails and says “could not connect to thread network.” I have several of the new IKEA thread devices.
Pairing matter over wifi devices works fine with home assistant, so it would seem to me to be a thread issue. I do have a nest display which is broadcasting a thread network. I am able to successfully pair devices to this thread network but not home assistant.
Home assistant sees the ZBT-2 thread network as preferred. I grabbed an old phone and it does not have the google home app installed, just the HA companion app. I did this to avoid any conflict with having creds for multiple thread networks. I synced the credentials successfully on the phone but still the same issue of not being able to join the thread network. The ZBT-2 is on a 6 foot usb extension and plugged into a 2.0 port on the PI.
I am really at a loss at this point. Would I be better off with the sonoff dongle? As much time as i’ve spent chasing this, if another dongle would solve the issue, it’d be money well spent.
Any help is appreciated, just not sure what else to look at.
I’m having the exact same problem. Set up the ZBT-2, and tried to connect some Matter Ikea devices to it. Getting the same problem as you.
It looks like my phone (Google Pixel 9) sees a different network than what is set up in HA. It says: checking connectivity to (ha-thread-xxx1) which is not the same as the one I actually set up (ha-thread-xxx2). Is this the same for your case?
First a little note.
The QR code on a Matter device can only be used to pair the device to the first Matter fabric after a factory reset.
If you want to pair it to other Matter fabrics, then you need a sharing code from the first one and use that.
Secondly.
In HA you should be able to set the preferred thread network in the Thread integration.
Once that is set then you need to copy the Thread credentials to you phone, which is done in the app on the phone.
It is a done in the companion app settings and then under troubleshooting you should find the copy Thread credentials option.
I have the network coming from the ZBT-2 set as the prefered network and I did go through the procedure to sync the creds to it in my phone. I have a few different IKEA matter devices. I went ahead and joined one to google home just to confirm they were working with thread and they do, but I was trying to provision a brand new device. Olivier, My thread networks match, My phone shows trying to connect to the correct one, but it is still failing.
For me going in my phone → Settings → Apps → Google play Services → clear cache & clear data → log in again → restarting my phone
Got it to work, apparently there was some faulty data stored in the play services cache causing the google scanner app to not choose the correct Thread network.
I don’t know if this will solve your problem as well, but you can always give it a try.
Sometimes it needs several attempts to get devices into the thread network. Especially those IKEA devices need some extra love. I have a couple of bulbs and Bilresas, some of them only connected after the second or third try, in between i switched WiFi on my phone off and on, which helped in my case …
