I have an ISY994 with a serial PLM controlling 3x Insteon 2477D dimmer switches (timers, Alexa integration, etc). Given the ISY is end-of-life, I’m ready to upgrade and exploring options. One such option is to replace the ISY994 with the successor device, eisy | home. That’s $290 plus $26 for the PLM adapter. Curious if there is another option using HA instead. I have spare RPIs or could load HA on a container but I’m not sure how to interface with the PLM and the Insteon switches. Ideally I’d like to not replace the switches.
Buy new Home Assistant compatible dimmer switches to replace the Insteon dimmers, load HA on a Raspberry Pi, learn how to replace your ISY automations using HA automations (this is probably the most time consuming part).
FYI, this is what I did years ago.
Note the recommended minimum RPi specs: Installation - Home Assistant. I’ve been using a RPi 4b 4gb memory / 32gb SD without any issues for over 4 years now.
I appreciate the reply, @MaxK, but as I mentioned, I’m not sure that I want to replace the existing switches. They work perfectly fine. Looking into this further, I think it might be possible to connect a USB PLM to an HA controller and operate it from there. Does anyone have further guidance on this path?
