It shouldn't be this hard... (please help!)

I’ve come to the forum a number of times trying to get a Pi and HASSOS running with a Pi4 and Razberry Zwave board.

No matter what I try, I can’t get the board to recognize and find my Zooz switches.

I edited the boot to recognize my WiFi network properly, so that’s good. I then followed these instructions to the letter:

I’ve gone down one rabbit hole after another chasing conflicting documentation that may or may not be current, and tried different integrations (ZwaveJS and ZwaveJS to MQTT), trying to find out what I’m doing wrong or get a usable GUI interface.

YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE TO ADAPT TO TECHNOLOGY
Per the founder’s goal of HA, this system is supposed to be easy, approachable and usable. I’m finding it to be anything but that.

It just shouldn’t be this hard, especially with a popular board (Razberry) that operates one of the most popular systems (Zwave).

Isn’t there someone who can help?

Thanks in advance!

Are you saying you have no UI at all (no HA UI) or just no zwave UI?

Thanks for following up!

I have the UI for ZwavetoMQTT, there’s no UI for ZwaveJS, but I have no idea if there’s supposed to be one. For some reason, nothing seems to work. See my screen shots below, perhaps they’ll help diagnose.

Zwave support is currently in a state of flux. Tough on a new user though.

You first have to do the configuration of your zwave controller in the zwavejs2mqtt UI.

See this:

it’s saying you don’t have a controller defined.

Just my luck.

Yeah, I recognized that something was missing, but I just don’t know what it’s asking me for, or even what or where to enter it. That’s the part I need help with for the moment. This is probably my 5th (or more) attempt to configure HASSOS with various iterations trying to connect with the serial integration, and so on. I just don’t know where to go from here. The instructions for this seemed so simple, but it just doesn’t work, and trying to do some self-help (because the default rebuke from the more knowledgeable guys is RTFM) led me down a bunch of dead-end rabbit holes.

If you can just point me to what I need to do, it’d be helpful.

I am not sure how you make a razberry work with hassos. Certain hardware hacks are required like disabling bt and enabling uart. You have probably read this, but just in case https://www.home-assistant.io/docs/z-wave/device-specific/#razberry-board

I recognise that you have a sunk cost in the razberry board, but perhaps try a usb device.

Those are the instructions I followed to the letter, inserting the commands at the end of the config file. I even (per other offsite instructions) booted, installed and configured HA (location, elevation, etc.) without the board, rebooted, shut down, reinstalled the board, and started again. No bueno.

I also tried with an Aeotech USB stick, likewise with no success with the same problems as above regarding the driver path.

you make the changes in the config section of that UI. You have to select the hamburger menu in the top left first.

Oh, FFS. So, I had no idea that I still needed to install the GUI component. The instructions are absolutely silent about needing to go from the Integration back to the Configuration page to add the front end. The moment I did that, my switches showed up immediately.

Thanks so much!!!
