.journal files from HA won't open in Ubuntu

I’m trying to read the .journals from a HA OS instance. However within Ubuntu 20.04.1 I end up with the error:

Journal effective settings seal=no compress=no compress_threshold_bytes=8B
Journal file ./[email protected]~ has unknown incompatible flags 0x4
Failed to open journal file ./[email protected]~: Protocol not supported
mmap cache statistics: 0 hit, 1 miss
Failed to open files: Protocol not supported

Anyone have a clue as to how I can access these logs? My HA OS instance no longer boots after an update and I’m curious about why.

How did you managed to get log file if your home assistant is not booting?
It’s not right for this process to be that hard (just to view system host log file).

I believe I mounted the boot media and started sifting through it.
I likely gave up on this rabbit-hole shortly after and re-installed.
I think I managed to mostly recover due to backups - but this was a while ago and my memory is fuzzy.
