Just bought a new house with Home Assist Installed

Hello…Newbie here… Just bought a home where Home Assist is installed but the previous owners did not leave any documentation or make me an administrator to an existing account. Is there a way to “assume” the current configuration within the house? There are many. Thanks for any guidance anyone can provide.

See https://www.home-assistant.io/docs/locked_out/ - but I’d also recommend reaching out to the seller.

Honestly I’d wipe it and reload it.

l do not imply malicious intent by the seller but you simply have zero guarantee the previous owner knew how to secure the set up properly.

Zero way this thing touches my network gear.

So you bought a rabbit hole :rabbit:

Like @NathanCu said build it new for yourself. Still I would keep a copy of the old HA install for reference as it should very much guide you on what to onboard to your new system (what is in place/installed around the house) :house:

And don’t forget to do a full backup, before you do anything! It will likely come in handy, either you use the existing installation, or if you setup new, the data and configs are important, at least to check some things afterwards.

To help you further, please let us know exactly, what you can do on that HA installation. If you can get to the web interface, it would be great. Maybe the user you use already has admin or owner privilege…
