Just getting started with 433 Mhz, could use some advice

Open to guidance in case 433 isn’t even the best path forward… Here’s what I’m trying to solve:

Today my setup is mostly WiFi devices with some zigbee and a couple zwave (mostly for control, so far not many sensors). I have a couple of locations that need a new light switch placed where there is no power available, so I’m looking for a good solution for either low power consumption battery powered wall switches, or even better using some of the “kinetic” no battery switches. FWIW, on the load side I already use Sonoff Minis…

If this is generally the right way to go, I need to decide how to handle the HA end of the 433. I have been looking into Sonoff RF bridge but a little confused if it a good way to go. I would be flashing with alternative firmware (I have experience with Tasmota). I’ve read about limits to the number of devices that can be supported and that it may simply not be able to support these types of switches at all.

I’ve also become aware of RFlink and have started to investigate it as well. Are there other good options?

Thoughts? I recently relocated to central america from the US so I no longer have easy/quick access to hardware via Amazon/eBay etc… so It’s important that if I buy something that I have a high degree of success getting it to work! I also want the flexibility to start adding sensors over time.

I did find this link helpful but since it’s from 2017 thought I would get fresh perspective…

Thanks

I would only go RF if you have specific hardware in mind that uses RF and has a known way to integrate with home assistant. Otherwise you might be in for some comparability challenges. If all you need are some switches to control lights why not go with a zigbee button? Perhaps a hue dimmer?

It’s a fair point and for solving my immediate need, if I can find battery powered zigbee switches that are reasonably economical it does make sense. Then I could table the 433 stuff until if/when another need arises.

I do like the price point of the 433 stuff!

At first glance the hue dimmer isn’t crazy at $24 (I’m pretty thrifty … :slightly_smiling_face:) but for at least one of the locations I need two switches. I’ll search further to see what zigbee options there are.
