Keep SmartThings or direct control for z-wave devices?

hey all, so I’m bran new to home assistant, I have been using SmartThings since the launch of there V2 hub but being a dev I have reached my limit with there limits (sorry for the bad word play), so to the question…

All my devices are z-wave so should I ditch ST and use a Aeotec Z-Stick Gen5 so HA can directly control my z-wave devices or should I stick with ST and use MQTT to allow HA to control ST? I don’t mide the complexity of having MQTT, I’m more concerned with performance, does any one know how much delay MQTT introduces? is direct control with the z-stick noticeably faster?

The delay is not bad, but if your internet goes down ST probably will not work. That is the advantage of having HA controlling your Zwave devices instead.

I agree - that is exactly why I moved all my devices to the stick and ditched the ST hub. With the cloud integration you are at the mercy of their servers which were pretty unreliable at times which is why I moved to HASS.
