Kogan smart plugs - not seeing power info in HA

I am very new to Home Assistant, only really heard of it a week ago and got it up and running on Saturday, but things are moving fast.

I have a 4 pack of Kogan Smarter Home Plug with Energy Meter units. I have them added to the Tuya app and they are appearing in HA fine as switches, and I can turn them on and off in HA and I can see the power consumption data in Tuya app but the power data is not coming into HA at all. There is only one entity and it is just the switch. I will move to ESPHome or Tasmota at some point, but not quite read to dive in there just yet. Is there a simple way to get the power data in to HA? I dont actually want the switch functionality at all, just the power monitoring of the applicances.

The core Tuya component does not support sensors: https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/tuya/

Thanks, is there another way to get that info, apart from loading custom firmware?

Search for “Tuya Local”.

IMO it’s easier to flash them.

Just came across these forum posts that may prove helpful for anyone attempting to get their Kogan smart plug flashed with custom firmware:
