I just purchased and installed a Kwikset 916 Zigbee Door Lock. It paired up with Home Assistant very easily, and I was able to issue lock/unlock commands, setup user codes, and read battery percentage and temperature. Everything seemed good, but after the installation I noticed some issues.
First, the lock is super noisy, much noisier than the other similar Smart Locks that I saw and tested out at my local hardware store. It sounded like a dentist’s drill or small skill saw when the bolt extended and retracted. Second, for some reason turning the bolt to lock and unlock the door took a considerable amount of effort. My previous Schlage lock didn’t take much force to turn the bolt, neither did the Yale smart lock that I have on my back door. Finally, after having it for just 1 day the keypad display stopped working. It just wouldn’t light up or accept any button pushes. I really wanted to like this smart lock, but I’m sending it back to Amazon as defective and ordering a Yale Z-Wave Lock instead. Just wanted to let everyone know my experience in case they are looking at this particular brand and model.
