Lafaer LWR01/LWR02 Wireless Presence Sensors: Radar Tuning and Local Configuration in Home Assistant

Hi everyone!

I’ve been using Lafaer LWR01/LWR02 Matter-over-Thread presence sensors with Home Assistant for a while, and overall I’ve been quite happy with them. The presence detection works well for my use case, and Matter-over-Thread makes the basic sensor data easy to integrate into HA.

The LWR01 and LWR02 offer more than basic presence detection, with configuration options including sensitivity, presence timeout, radar distance segments, and energy thresholds. The LWR01 also offers a high-performance mode, while the LWR02 supports detection mode selection and more granular radar configuration, along with real-time energy readings to help fine-tune the settings. These features are available through the Lafaer App over a local connection, but aren’t exposed through the standard Matter interface.

Since I prefer managing everything in Home Assistant, switching to another app just to configure the sensor felt a little inconvenient.

So I built a custom integration to bring most of the App’s device management and configuration features directly into Home Assistant.

The integration adds a dedicated sidebar panel for managing Lafaer LWR01 and LWR02 sensors, including:

  • Device management: Discover, take over, add notes, edit device details, and remove devices from the list.

  • Sensor readings: View presence, illuminance, battery level, and device information. LWR02 also supports temperature and humidity readings, while LWR01 reports its power source.

  • Detection settings: Sensitivity, presence timeout, and low-light reporting.

  • Advanced radar configuration: Configure radar distance segments and energy thresholds, toggle high-performance mode on LWR01, and view live energy readings and charts on LWR02.

  • Device controls: Control the LED, identify the device, run radar self-learning, and reset radar parameters.

The integration runs in Home Assistant and communicates directly with the sensors over Thread/IPv6, so your phone doesn’t need to be nearby.

If you’re using an LWR01 or LWR02 with Home Assistant, feel free to give it a try.

The integration can be installed through HACS as a custom repository or manually. The GitHub README includes installation instructions, screenshots, and troubleshooting guidance.

Each sensor stores only one management key. Taking over a device in Home Assistant replaces the Lafaer App’s key, so the App and HA cannot manage the sensor simultaneously.

I’d love to hear from other LWR01/LWR02 users. Feedback, bug reports, and suggestions are very welcome!
