LaMetric Component - Extending Functionality?

I just pulled the plug and purchased a LaMetric today as it was on sale at Amazon.
I am looking at our current component and if I am not mistaken, it is currently limited to send notifications. I wonder if there any appetite to expand on it’s functionality?

One thing that I would really be interested in, is the ability to switch form one app to another.
This way we could schedule time in HA to display information at a certain time. But more importantly, I would like to be able to automatically turn the display to dark mode (from the “Dark” app) every time I start playing a movie with my Kody system" Also be able to dim the display at will and turn it off when no one is home. In either case, then be able to bring it back to the clock when the movie is done or when someone comes home.

It seems like some folks have already made some progress with python apps, but honestly, this is too far beyond my comprehension for me to iimplement, the two repositories that I am taking about can be found here:

That implements the following:
switching apps
play/pause radio
switch radio channels
start/pause/reset countdown and stopwatch
enable/disable/set alarm clock
examples for alarm clock and radio

This was a fork from this original code:

Any ideas? Could this be possible? Thanks

Hi bernienl! May I ask how you’re experience is with LaMetric Time? I’m still looking for a smart alarm clock that can be hooked up to HA. Especially for retrieving the timestamp of any set alarm.

Hi Rik,

I am personally enjoying my LaMetric clock but I don’t use it to the extend that you would. You do have interesting concepts though. For me, I just use it to scroll messages across the display in between showing the clock face. Things like “Bedtime” (for my daughter, this way I am not the bad guy telling her that she needs to go to bed) telling me when the dryer has finished it’s cycle (this one is a hit and miss and not that accurate) and alerting me that someone is at the door. Pretty simple stuff. Overall it’s a good unit.
Would be curious to see what you come up with if you ever purchase one.

Thanks for your reply Bernard!

I checked the LaMetric community forum to see if the LaMetric got this functionality (or get it in a future update): Support for getting alarm time in Device API : Support

Based on that thread I also emailed LaMetric support, they replied:

Dear Rik,

Thanks for reaching out to us and for your feedback.

Please note that /api/v1/ is a private undocumented API and should not be used as it may change abruptly
Currently, there is no feature for getting alarms from API. But we appreciate your feedback and will take it into our account.

Thanks for taking the time to reach out to us. If you have any other questions, please let us know.

Best regards,
LaMetric Support Team

In the end, I went with buying a Sonos Symfonisk combined with Shellydimmer2’s inside our bedlamps that work as a wake-up light with radio on wake time. Brings great functionality and flexibility!
