I’m running a DHCP and DNS Server with Microtik CHR mainly to be able to identify server and services by names.
I just noticed that in Home Assistant OS and Home Assistant container name resolution of my lan hosts fails when I use a name that point to a CNAME record instead of an A record.
To be more explicit, if I run nslookup X.lan
in HAOS where X.lan
is a static A
entry in my DNS Server this give the correct IP address of the server and I can use X.lan
almost everywhere in HA configurations files and while adding integrations with the UI.
But if I run nslookup Y.lan
in HAOS or HA container where Y.lan
is a static CNAME
entry in my DNS Server that point to X.lan
, this still give the correct IP address of the server but with a footnote ** server can't find Y.lan: NXDOMAIN
and I can’t use Y.lan
while adding integrations with the UI.
There something wrong in my setup?
There’s a bug somewhere?
