I am looking for a “lazer tripwire” that could somehow trigger an automation. There is a lot of tripwires around but I have not found anyone that could be used
How much money do you want to spend?
I came up with a laser system using a NodeMCU, a 24vdc wall wart type power supply, a buck voltage regulator, a 5 volt relay and a IFM 01D100 laser.
the laser was the most expensive part and it is normally pretty expensive for DIY stuff (~$300US) but I was able to find one pretty cheap as salvage. Everything else was less than $20 total.
On the plus side it works great! If you can figure out the laser part that has a digital output with an adjustable distance setting then the rest is easy.
It was more an idea of something to guard one of the garden perimiters that has only a stonewall as fence. But investigating the security camera system there is a module called cross line detector that trigger when someone pass a line drawn in the camera view. This way it ignore motions that is outside the low wall. I have the camera already there and the module is available so I will test. But thatnks for the answer, can be useful in future
Do you have an ESP 8286?
You could use a TOF sensor such as a VL53L1X or RFD77402.
They are designed to measure distance either up to 4m or 2m. But you could use them to detect if the distance changes and use that as your trigger.
They are about £10 a module for the VL53L1X
I am hopeless with diy so I rather pay for a ready solution. Thats why my HA project get so expensive.
