Limited to controlling 7 hue bulbs in Automations and/or Scenes?

Hello all,

I’m perplexed a bit by my problem. I have an Automation (used to be a Scene but I re-made it as an Automation) that controls 8 (eight) Hue light bulbs in a single step. It simply turns them on, then sets the color temperature and brightness.

This Automation will correctly control 7 (seven) of those bulbs but always, when it gets to the 8th one, it errors with the following message:

Request failed due connection error: Cannot connect to host 192.168.1.5:80 ssl:default [Connect call failed ('192.168.1.5', 80)] The IP here is my Philips Hue branded v1 Zigbee IP Bridge.

I have no idea why 7 seems to be the limit here. It’s not always the same light that errors either. I guess it’s a fun surprise to see which one doesn’t light.

At first I set this up as a scene but since I kept getting the error, I thought maybe the Scene was the problem so I just made it an Automation. Of course, the problem persisted.

Any insights?

Are the bulbs in a group? If so, is it a Home Assistant group or a Hue group?

Hi! Thanks for the response. The bulbs are not in a group.

The bridge is OLD (like me), as are the bulbs. I was an early adopter so these are the v1 of the v1. They still work great but I want to abandon the bridge. I’d like to migrate all the lights on this bridge to ZHA eventually but that’s a problem too because the original Philips app doesn’t work any longer and the new one isn’t compatible with the old bridge. I’ve tried a number of methods to reset the pairing on the individual bulbs but none have worked. In any case, I just got a HA Yellow kit and I’ll look into moving the Hue lights after I get that set up.

You can reset those bulbs with a hue dimmer.

Thanks for the suggestion. This is the only thing I haven’t tried yet because I deign to give Philips any more money. Maybe I’ll have to bite the bullet for this.

Thanks for the link! I’ve read through that document a few times prior to posting here. It primarily addresses a workflow for the v2 hub (I have the v1). Ultimately, unpairing is the crux of the problem for me and I’ll likely have to resort to the Hue dimmer switch as @mcarty suggested.
