Location updates interval is too slow

Hi everyone,

A real pleasure to work with homeassistant, love it!

But now I have a small issue.
I know this has been asked sufficiently times, that the location is not tracked frequently (or
rarely) enough, but at the same time people in those cases still want privacy by disabling features/permissions etc. I don’t care about any of that, I just want the location updates to be very frequent and I’m willing to give all the access it needs.

Issue: I have a homepage where I see my location and regardless if I am home with wifi or out of my zone with mobile data, the map barely updates, sometimes it takes 10 minutes, sometimes it takes 5 hours.

I’m on an Android/Pixel 8 Pro.

Things I have tried:

  • Enabled ‘ALL’ permissions to homeassistant app, including location with precision
  • Besides location, I removed all limitations, battery usage, data usage etc.

Then on the companion app settings, I also enabled Sensor update frequency to Fast always

So I am willing to give it all the access it needs, hell, it can know when I hiccup, yet, location is still too slow. Ideally, I’d like it to ping every minute (like the companion app settting claims)

Are there any known issues related to this?

Phones probably wouldn’t let you do that in the background because it will destroy the phone battery. And every app built by data driven companies would do it too. So I doubt it could be built.

Mine is setup for fast updates at i think 5 second intervals, change the settings under “manage sensors” “Location Sensors” “background Location”

dont update the settings for location under sensor update frequency if thats where you made the change.

I have mine setup for High accuracy mode, update interval 5 seconds, and have it use high accuracy mode only when connected to the bluetooth of the vehicles i drive.

using these settings Home assistant app only reports about 2% battery life use for the day.
