Hi,
I’ve been using the built-in to-do list in Home Assistant for a long time, but it’s no longer sufficient for my use, to simple.
I’m looking for more functionality, such as “assign”, “category”, “logging”, and “recurring events.”
I’m therefore exploring external projects with integrations. I need a frontend in Home Assistant that allows me to both view and add items to the list. I don’t want to navigating to an external interface for daily use.
Here’s what I’ve tried over a period:
Donetick - GitHub link
A relatively new project with a good UI and decent functionality but with significant limitations, including missing features and some bugs. It lacks a proper API and has only a rudimentary Home Assistant integration that can only fetch data from the system. The developer has no plans to expand Home Assistant functionality and doesn’t seem particularly motivated to improve the project, especially regarding Home Assistant.
Also, the integration isn’t working: issue link.
Grocy - GitHub link
An older project that works quite well. It has a simple and clean UI and comes with Home Assistant integration and a custom Lovelace card. However, the card’s functionality for adding tasks doesn’t seem to work (though I think I could create something for that). Still, it also lacks the ability to edit entries, which I can’t solve myself.
The person behind both the integration and the Lovelace card has stopped using Grocy, so we unfortunately have to assume that this project will not be further developed or maintained.
So both options have their issues.
Are there any other alternatives I can try? Any experiences?
