Hi,
I’m looking for a device to boost the zwave signal at the far end of my appartment.
As far as I know, zwave devices act as repeaters - unless they’re running on batteries.
So I think I need something that’s AC-powered, like a wall plug (e.g. the Fibaro FIBEFGWPF-102-5).
If I’m wrong, please correct me.
Anyway, the mentioned Fibaro wall plug costs around 40-50 EUR in Germany and I’m looking for something that’s a little bit cheaper but still good quality (don’t want to burn down my appartment just because I saved 10 EUR…).
Aeotech has one that also repeats ZWave plus. I have 2 of them and they work great. Simple little AC plug in thing.
The Zwave control panel reports their neightbours as the majority of my devices so they really do have quite a robust radio in them as they can see things even a wall switch 2 or 3 feet away doesn’t report as a neighbor.
Thanks, the Aeotech range extender looks kinda nice, but it’s also >40 EUR and it has no other use than extending the range.
The Fibaro wall plug is only slightly more expensive, but it can be used to measure power consumption and remotely turn on/off power.
I know that any non-battery-powered device will do - the difficulty is finding one that’s at the lower end of the price range
And I need to be able to purchase it in Germany.
I found some of the TKB devices on amazon.de, but they’re not really attractive - judging by the price and looks.
Look for the Everspring or Cyrus Z-Wave Plugs on https://www.notebooksbilliger.de They are both on sale right now for 33 and 39€.
if you want to go even cheaper you’ll have to turn to the Neo Coolcam WR01ZE Z-Wave Smart Socket . The cost between 15-20€ but have to be imported from China.
The price for the Everspring is quite nice, thanks for the tip! On the downside, it’s only rated at 1.5kW and doesn’t allow to measure power.
I also found the Aeotech ZW117 for a little under 38 EUR, which makes it also attractive.
I saw the Fibaro wall plug for about 42 EUR a few days ago, which would also be acceptable given the useful additional features.
Importing electronic devices from China is not really my thing, especially devices that are plugged into a wall socket 24/7.
I’ll have to give it some more thought, but I think I’ll go for either the Aeotech extender or the Fibaro wall plug when it’s on sale somewhere.
I ended up buying an inovelli plug in outlet for $35 on Amazon. We’ll be using it for inside holiday decorations and the repeating is a bonus that solved my range issues. It’s also zwave plus. That Aeotec device is $22 on Amazon here in the US. It made sense for my situation to spend a little more to solve a few issues with one device.
