Looking for suggestion: Wall mounting bracket for old smartphone as IP camera

Hi guys.

I am looking for suggestion on how to mount an old smartphone to a wall.

I plan to use the smartphone as IP camera via the Android IP Webcam component and also as doorbell video call (via MQTT + Tasker + Skype), which will be installed at outdoor.

As such, the mounting solution must be secure and tamper proof.

Any suggestion will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Sounds like a 3d printing job, in which case you are probably in for a long search through the jumble of thingiverse

My idea is something like this…

But I worry that the metal box will interfere or even block the Wifi and Bluetooth signal. Another thing is I need to drill some holes for the camera, cable and ventilation.

Perhaps cut the back out of it before mounting it on the wall? Leave enough of the back to be able to screw it to the wall?

the wall is concrete. will cutting the back out helps?

Possibly not. Will depend to an extent what the concrete is reinforced.

I wonder if it is time for a rethink on wifi? You have to run some form of wire for a power supply anyway, why not run ethernet and have a pi with camera in there? You could do POE and get away with one cable.

Trouble is POE doesn’t usually help with andoid/ios phones as they don’t do wired ethernet, but there are POE tablets on Aliexpress.

Other than IP camera, I want to use it as video call via Skype when someone presses the doorbell. I plan to use Tasker to automate the video calling after receiving command from HA via MQTT.

Other than Wifi, I also need Bluetooth to connect the phone to my Jabra Speak 510 via Bluetooth. This will improve the sound and mic quality tremendously.

Another obstacle is the location makes it hard for me to drag an Ethernet cable.

I wish there is an Android device with camera support, ethernet connection and USB ports for wired speakerphone such as Jabra Speak 410.

why not using a smartphone car mount fixed in the wall

secure and tamperproof seem to the barriers to that.

i think nothing is really secure, a smartphone is not secure, and is easy to break.
the same for tamperproof … maybe add a little rooftop in plexiglass, but a old smartphone is not humidity resistant.
So the more simple will be the best.
