I’m in US. House has two separate HVAC, one for upstairs and one for downstairs. I believe both have c-wire. Looking for simple and cheap thermometers that can be pre-programmed each day and easily integrated to HA.
I currently don’t have zigbee or z-wave or smarthings hub. I do have Ring Alarm which I think uses z-wave but not sure if it accepts other z-wave device not from Ring.
Nest and Ecobee are nice, however they are expensive and the learning capability may not apply to us since our schedule often change.
I did some researches, two options come up, both around $70+.
Emerson Sensi Wi-Fi Smart Thermostat. HA has wink integration. Seems should be relatively easy. From the doc, it does support local control too but not very well.
GC-TBZ48 GoControl. It is z-wave, seems that I need a hub for it. If this is a good option, any recommendation for z-wave hub? Ideally a hub that accepts both z-wave and zigbee(for future expansion).
The Sensi is a nice thermostat but the wink integration does not work because Wink’s API is broken and apparently not being fixed as the company goes down the tubes. There is no working local control for the Sensi that I know of.
Another option that I have with local control that works well is the Radio Thermostat CT50 with optional WiFi module. It’s closer to $100. A little fussy to set up, but works great 100% local control. As the Wink integration falls ever more apart, I’m thinking about buying a second CT50 to replace the Sensi.
ah wink no longer working?
no wonder I applied the developer account one week ago but didn’t receive anything yet. thanks for the info. I’ve already got one sensi, guess will just have to use it’s own app.
Apparently Sensi now also has an integration with Smarthings which you can use kind of sort of like the Wink API. Here’s a relevant thread: Wink/PubNub not updating
I have the GoControl thermostat and am also fully bought-in on z-wave (almost all of my light switches are zwave, as well as motion sensors, etc).
If you go that route, you’ll definitely need a z-wave hub. Most people (like me) use the Aeotec Z-stick.
You don’t NEED to have a z-wave hub to use the thermostat. It will work out of the box and you can program it directly on the unit, but you won’t be able to integrate it into Home-Assistant without a hub.
I’ve switched both of my Sensis over to SmartThings. (I don’t own a ST hub)
So far I’d say it’s better than Wink. The only negative is it doesn’t seem to update the current temp in the rooms often (Wink was never correct). Still works great for when I want to make a quick change in HA.
I really like the z-wave PIR multi-sensors from Monoprice (I think they’re basically unlabeled Zooz sensors). They include temp, humidity, motion, and luminance.
