I had hue and xiaomi on their own mesh until recently - I bought a conbee usb stick. Love it. My range is better. Lights on the far end of the apartment are more reliable.
I added a couple generic zigbee plugins to help the mesh too. and got to throw out two hubs!
deconz is a very simple ui that I would be comfortable handing to my parents. looking forward to a similar open source ui for zwave when it goes open source later this year
