Very new to HA. I’m glad I just got the simple Lutron Caseta kit to test the ecosystem of the Caseta system. I just set up the in-wall unit which does not require neutral (in a house without neutral - moving within a year to new house). I installed it and confirmed that it worked without th gateway device installed which is what I need. It’s important to me to be able to actuate light switches even if the automaton system is down.
I plugged in the gateway and gave it a fixed IP address from my firewall. So far so good.
I went into integrations and added the Lutron integration. But then it seemed to hook into Apple’s Homekit. What the heck. So I removed the Homekit and Lutron integrations and decided to try Lutron again. Seems it was no problem. I gave it the fixed IP that I had assigned to the gateway device and it worked on it’s own without the Homekit integration.
Next I looked around for how to add the wall switch into HA and to my great disappointment it seems I have to use the Lutron Caseta app which requires an account and login. It seems this is the only way to get the certs required to pair the devices with HA. I turned off my phone and have confirmed that I do not need the app to turn the switch on/off from HA.
Now, curious to know if I must keep this app and a Lutran account on my phone in order to add future devices.
Somehow I missed the part of the HA integration that said I had to load and log into an app to make this work. I was under the impression that HA had info about integrations and devices and the need to interact with the internet…
This app was pretty bold and in some cases gave me no choice if I wanted to proceed. Where’s the red flag on this one? Sorry if it’s obvious an I just missed it.
Very disappointed.
