I have a Lutron PD-6WCL smart dimmer switch. It works fine if I use Lutron app or HA to turn it on/off etc. However, if I press the physical buttons on the switch (on/off/brighter/dimmer), the HA light entity is not registering any state changes. Which plays havoc with automations and scenes, as you can imagine.
I also have a DVRF-6L smart dimmer switch which works perfectly in all regards (including physical presses).
This is a lot like what I am experiencing. When a Lutron Caseta light is activated by the buttons on the Lutron device, HA seems unaware of the fact that the light is on. HA is able to turn the light off or alter its setting.
I don’t remember this being an issue in older versions. I only started noticing it recently.
When I check the Lutron app, I get a message on the Advanced, Integration, Connections page;
“The following list may be incomplete due to a connection problem. Please try later.”
“Your Lutron system does not have any integrations connections set up.”
I have had the same issue for a number of months. When the physical buttons of the actual switch (not a Pico) are pressed, Home Assistant does not detect this. If any software or Pico turns them on, everything appears fine.
I have an automation that when a bathroom exhaust fan is turned on, to turn it off after 30 minutes. It stopped working well months ago - I noticed it this fall when the kids went back to school.
Anyhow, if I refresh the integration, it will get current statuses, but that isn’t helpful. I have thought about looking into a script to refresh the integration every minute, but not exactly sure if that can be done as refreshing isn’t an action that can be called from what I have seen (admittedly limited time spent looking).
I have heard people say this is because the standard bridge/hub doesn’t send updates for physical button presses. Well, I can say with 100% certainty that this hasn’t been a problem for over a year until this past few months. However, I just bought a Pro bridge to see if that will help. When it arrives later this week, I will report back to see if that makes a difference. The few threads I can find suggests it might because of the telnet functionality. We’ll see AND it doesn’t explain why this recently stopped.
Of note - I just tested HomeKit and it seems to have the same issue with physical button presses and that is also relatively new. I don’t know if Lutron changed something or what is going on, but it is annoying. Lutron has been rock solid for me in every environment. I’ve been in HomeKit for 8 years and HomeKit plus Home Assistant for 2 years. Something has changed.
I have now installed the pro bridge and moved everything over. When you replace a Lutron bridge, you first must remove the devices from the existing bridge, then add them to the new one. I had many devices and this took some time.
However, the good news is Home Assistant remembered the devices and their names/IDs, so all automations worked. Also, and most importantly to this thread- physical button presses are recognized and passed to both Home Assistant and HomeKit within a couple of seconds. I’ve had this live for 3 days and it has worked as expected.
I’m not sure why the normal smart bridge stopped working, but the pro bridge works!
