Mains powered motion detector?

Is there a motion detector I could plug into a standard outlet? I’d like to get a quicker update then the current 20sec one on my zigee motion. I know I could possibly decrease the time at exepense of battery life though. Thats why I’d like one I can plug in.

The Aeotec Multisensor 6 can be powered via USB (so using an outlet with an adapter) but you will need to have a Z-Wave transceiver

I admit I don’t understand the slow update of these sensors - I’m just starting on Zigbee and am yet to purchase a motion sensor.

All my motion sensors are battery powered Sonoff 433Mhz. These update immediately and battery life in high traffic areas is over a year so far. But again you would need a new bridge.

Just to be clear, ZigBee motion sensors are not slow to update but they have a cool down period around 1.5 minutes. When they sense a motion, they will stay in this state before going back to not-occupied state.

And there are some hardware modifications out there to shorten this cool down period.

Ah - that makes sense. Thanks.

Yes…to be clear. My devices alert HA to motion quickly. It’s just that then, the device stays in the “motion sensed” status for 60 seconds.

Not sure about zigbee but Zwave motions have wait period that may be turned OFF buy putting them in test mode(move dip switch on motion). This allows 1 or 2,second delay between reports. Maybe look at that.

I use zwave Aeotec trisensor and it has possibility to configure cooldown period.

The ones you have in a home alarm (at least the old type with a indicator LED) didn’t have any cool down period.
Perhaps get one of those and white it to a ESP-Home?

Or just PIR if you have a nice case you can mount it in.

I have been searching for the same thing but wasn’t able to find anything yet. Ill keep searching for a mains powered motion detector.

You may just consider waiting for the new aqara presence detection sensor. They are mains powered (USB-c), and will be far superior to any PIR motion detectors out there. They are already available in mainland China, with the expectation being sometime this year last I heard. The price point may be a barrier for some, depending on the number required - the article I saw said somewhere in the $60s.

From my experience the Xiaomi (Aquara) gear have pretty long cool down time. My Z-Wave sensors are adjustable and I have them set at 2 seconds. The MS6 sensors I mentioned previously are great.

I haven’t tried it but there’s this one. Z-Wave though, not zigbee.

That new motion sensor may fit your needs. Two batteries, and an adjustable blind time.
