I have a question…I have existing Nolte LED kitchen lights installed, which are operated by a touch sensor. I would like to “smarten things up” and add control through Homeassistant, but do not quite now where to start. I recently played with ESPHome a bit and now have 2 working sensors for water and my salt level in my water softener created and they are working properly.
So…I had the idea to somehow make my current light control smart by using the 3rd board I have flying around, but do not know if this is possible. I have attached a picture of the current control unit… Anyone any idea on how to do this… If possible at all…?
I had a similar task recently.
While renovating our current home, my mother in law “designed” a light for one of our furnitures in the kitchen with some LED lights.
They could be controlled with an “simple” RF controller…
I had this on my todo list for very long time now - to integrate it into our SmartHome… And I found some Zigbee LED Driver that could be replaced very easily…
So… I would just check if you could replace the controll with another one… there are plenty of them available for WiFi, Zigbee, multi-color, or what ever…
It depends, whats your light supporting…
there are probably cheaper devices available - and I also have another one for multi-color LED stripes… but we only have dimmable which also do not support any color-temperature change at all.
it is working with my Zigbee Coordinator (using ZHA) - but it also worked with Philips Hue - and it should work with pretty much any other Zigbee based integration.
Thanks for the ideas so far. Maybe summer things to note:
I currently do not have a wall switch to operate these lights, so just relaxing a wall ssitch is not an option
the lights are currently operated by the touch sensor only, this can:
turn then on and then step through 3 different brightness levels may tapping the sensor
change the light temperature by holding the sensor
I do not really want to get rid of this sensor, since it is mounted on the underside of one of the cabinets and I would prefer to leave it there. I do not want to make it “smart only”; I have replaced a lot of lights and switches on my house (basically everything) but never ever get rid of the manual controls of these.
So in this situation I would like to accomplish the same; keep the touch sensor control, but also be able to control it through Homeassistant. Therefore I was thinking of ESPHome as kind parallel to the touch sensor which would emulate the touches…
Again don’t know if this is possible, or practical at all…
