Make phone send an SMS without Twilio or other webservice?

Complete newbie here, haven’t even set up HA yet.
But I’m planning to buy HA Yellow and built in automation from the start, when we move in to a new place soon.

One thing I haven’t been able to find an answer for here, though, is in the subject line.

I have a Samsung phone with SIM, that is always at home.

I’d like HA to somehow trigger the smartphone to send sms to other phone numbers.

I’d like to avoid Twilio and other things, that requires HA to connect to cloud or webservice.

Can HA somehow make a smartphone send a text message?

Maybe utilizing IFTTT or via a Smartthings hub?

Maybe you can do this via the companion app

I would follow this tricky approach;

  • send a companion app notification to your Samsung Android phone
  • catch it on the phone with tasker (you can specify notification title to distinguish the interested one)
  • create a flow in tasker to send whatever sms you want

Thanks, that sounds like, it could work!
Could probably also work with IFTTT instead of Tasker.

you are right but you would be attached to cloud based service IFTTT, which I am not against  but would prefer something local :stuck_out_tongue:

or maybe, it is also working locally, not sure

Thanks, I actually thought I could use IFTTT for that without the cloud.
But as I said, I’m a complete noob, so I can very well be mistaken

Ifttt is a cloud service.
