Heheheh… I don’t know if that would require a lot of modification to Polymer or just CSS3 and HTML… The theming system needs to be implemented.
Or why not build your own custom application that simply talks to Home Assistant’s backend via REST API and disable the frontend?
Disclaimer: I’ve never written a web application that involves Polymer.

I doubt the built-in front-end will change theme any time soon. But alternative front-ends are totally possible and I’m sure would be welcomed should anyone wish to implement such a thing.
