i created a tracker with life360 and added it to my person id.
The badge at the top of the interface shows correctly if im home or at work.
But when i look at the Map-Card or the Map on the left side in the menu it only shows me at home. In the Map-card i added the same person id. The zones are set up in configuration.yaml.
Do i need to change something else for the map-card or the map to show me ? Is there a way to adjust update frequency of the Map-Card?
I am using it with the unofficial icloud3. amd google maps Thinking I may have too many trackers butas far a I can see life360 is doing nothing. I really wanted a tracker that allowed me to add HA zones based on a map location. The pre-standard life360 claimed to do that…
i set up the zones manually in yaml. I go to the little badge/icon at the top of the dashboard. Then i press create zone from location. i drag it around exactly where i want it/resize it. Then i take the elevation and radius from there and put them in yaml. They will show up on the map accordingly.
Im using the normal life360 integration as well. Looking at the state it also displays only not_home. If you look in Attributes it shows the address.
I seem to remember with one of my trackers I used to be able click on my location in the map and create a one from there. The documentation on the “pre standard integration” for life360 this was possible. Now I can create a place in life360 and manually convert to a one in HA. Trying to avoid manual action. So now , combined with disclosure of what Life360 is doing with data on their app (which you pay for) I am looking at owntracks
Is there something I can help with? I maintain the life360 integration.
FWIW, when I originally submitted the integration to become a standard, built-in one, I was not allowed to retain the feature that could create HA zones automatically from Life360 Places. So, I did the next best thing, which was to add debug level messages in home-assistant.log that output the details for the existing Life360 Places, in a format that could be easily copied into the HA YAML configuration. I know it’s a manual process, but that was all I was allowed to do.
Phil. Thanks for the info. Unfortunately this was the exact feature that drew me to life360. Not having that, the cost and the selling of personal data has pretty much removed life360 from my consideration. Thanks for your response
I believe that is old information. But, of course, everyone needs to decide for themselves.
Regarding creating HA zones from Life360 Places, I suppose I could come up with a custom integration that does just that. It wouldn’t have to poll very often, maybe once an hour or so, so as to reduce traffic to the server. I’ll put it on my list of possible ToDo’s.
Old but current and something I was unaware of. I understand the need for developers to sell data to support development and i found the way to opt out but to pay for the service and have the data resold… not my cup of tea
That’s my point, it’s not current. It’s my understanding that once the story broke, the company came out and said they were no longer going to sell personal data, only aggregated data. E.g.:
that’s good to hear… but in the end I can get what i want (semi automatic zones) for free. This rest of information is kind of redundant to what I am getting from the no standard icloud3
