Has anyone had any luck yet with newer LG TVs and the Matter integration in HA? I’ve just bought a 2023 LG TV and it’s displaying the Matter logo and the instructions mention it can act as a Matter controller. I’m not up to speed with the all the new lingo so don’t know if this means it works with Thread, is a border router, can act as a control point for other Matter devices or what?
I would treed lightly and have lots of available. From my experience with LG stuff, they are first to plaster the latest ‘logo’ on their devices and last to get the integration to work, if at all. I would review the number of threads here about ‘successes’ so far with matter in general.
If you want to venture down some testing of the LG, I would recommend getting yourself a low cost tasmota 32 device with a simple LED attached. Flash it with the latest Tasmota32 standard image. Plug it in right next to your LG TV and configure the Tasmota32 device as a Matter ‘router’ via a laptop or mobile. Then play around with adding this Tasmota32 device as a Matter device to your LG TV and see if you can get the LG TV to control the LED on the Tasmota32 device. If you get that far, then you can go down the rabbit hole of mixing multiple Matter controllers and networks together. I should not sound so negative, because I do think Matter is going to be a useful direction once the bugs are out. And using this nice work by the Tasmota folks, I do have ‘Matter’ devices that I can control and query from both my Apple voice and Google voice hubs, that’s kind of cool and useful going forward.
There are lower cost test devices, however I had a couple of these around and found them to be handy ESP32 devices in general for testing and use.
Thanks - will consider this method and device once my TV is up and I can start to see what might be possible.
