it supports thread.

matter and thread are 2 different things.
matter can go over thread or wifi, which are both a lower level protocol that matter goes on top of.

For Matter you need to have the Matter server integration running on your Home assistant instance, this will let you use devices that are Matter over wifi.

You only need the Thread based co-ordinator if you will be using Matter over Thread devices.

Yes, it can be used in a Thread Border Router, like the in the addon in HA, so you can use it with Matter.

Sonoff also mention HA and Matter in the product description.
