Matter not working on Mac M4 mini with UTM installation

I had HA up and running well on my Mac mini using VirtualBox. For reasons which I won’t bother getting into, I decided to move it to a UTM installation instead. Once the image was up and running, I restored from a backup. Everything is working except for the Matter server - none of my Matter devices will connect or be seen. When I try to reinstall them using the pairing code, HA just spins and never connects. Does anyone have any suggestions for how to fix this?

Do you have IPv6 enabled?
Matter requires IPv6.

Yes, I do. And after I posted this, I tried deleting the matter integration and readding it. Immediately, 7 of 9 existing devices reappeared. However, I cannot get the remaining 2 to pair no matter what I try. I’m at the point where I think I might have to delete them from Apple Homekit (where they were initially paired), reset the devices, and re-add them. Unless you have any other suggestions?

Try to share then from Apple Home again.

Have tried that. Also tried deleting from Apple Home, resetting the device according to manufacturer instructions, then readding to Apple Home. Still can’t re-pair with HA - it just spins and spins and times out

Answering my own question, in case anyone else comes looking for a solution to this issue. The answer was found in this Reddit thread:

What I had been doing repeatedly and it continuously failed:

  • Settings → Devices and entities → Add Device → Add Matter Device

What finally worked which I never thought to try:

  • Settings → Devices and entities → Add Integration → Matter → Add Matter Device

This worked for me too, after hours of troubleshooting and trying a whole whackload of different suggestions I found online.
