Matter Server Not Starting

I had matter working fine until I had to do a full backup restore. Now after the restore, the matter server will not start. I’ve uninstalled it, rebooted, reinstalled it, rebooted, and it still didn’t start, even with manual start. This is in my supervisor log:

(For some reason Ring wants to start even though I don’t have any Ring devices and no integrations or servers, but that’s a separate issue, I hope.) The Matter integration obviously doesn’t work because the server won’t start. Any ideas?

Maybe take a look at the Matter Server Logs themselves to see what the problem might be.

This was all that was in the log section under Matter server. I tried starting the server again a few moments ago and I got this exact log entry. Nothing updated in the log.

Hmmm… I captured a startup log of mine way back several months ago when I first installed my Matter Server Add0n, and compared it to yours, I don’t see anything particularly wrong.

My next suggestion would be to go into the Matter AddOn’s configuration page and select the log level to debug and restart it to see if there is any more useful information.

Where exactly would you find that? I looked in the add-on section in settings and didn’t see an option to debug log. I’m still getting a little used to HA, so I’m a little new. Had it for a while, but this is the first time I had a problem.

I just tried to start it today on 2023-10-16 @ 14:32 and nothing is showing in this log about that and to be honest, I don’t remember trying to start it yesterday.

I’ve not seen a mDNS error regarding short packets before. Kinda wondering what network interface do you have? Ethernet, WiFi?

Ethernet and IP4 and IP6 are set to auto. It is a raspi4. As I said it was working before, but since a full restore to a previous date, (Stupid me messed up the default UI. Learned my lesson to create a separate and ruin that one) the server stopped starting even after an uninstall/reinstall of the server. Very confusing.

Okay, I solved the problem in a roundabout way, but this solution shouldn’t be the end all, be all.

What I did was completely reinstalled from scratch. After I setup the initial account and got in, I immediately installed the Matter server addon. Started right up. Then I reinstalled the Google Backup Addon (great for issues like this) and downloaded the latest backup to the OS. Then I did a full backup to restore it back to my latest state. Checked to see if the server was running and it was. Now doing a full backup, you may not need to install the Matter server addon before, but I did it to see if it worked doing a wipe and fresh install.

Again, this should not be the solution. Somewhere there is a configuration that stays even if there is a full restore from a backup located somewhere and if it gets corrupted, it will stop the server from ever running unless you do what I do. We need to find out what it is so you don’t have to do these steps because this is inconvenient and time consuming. I’ll post on the project page the issue so it will be in two areas. If someone doesn’t find a solution here, it will probably be paid attention to there.

I’ve just been struck by this bug. It’s a showstopper. I hope someone can find a solution.
