Matter & SkyConnect & Eve: Border Router required

Hey ho.

I am continuing to play around with my Eve Energy devices, trying to pair them to my SkyConnect. There is a thread (Adding Matter device (Eve Energy)) on doing that - but always via Apple Home, which never worked for me. Now I tried a different approach - migrating to Matter and then trying to pair directly via HomeAssistant and SkyConnect.

First of all - the thread integration correctly shows “Silicon Labs Multiprotocol” as border router within the thread integration.

When now trying to add the Matter device from either Android or iOS, I get an error message telling me that a Thread border router is required - but I have a thread border router, it is even shown in the Thread integration… If the device would not be found there is a different error message, so somehow it points a bit to the SkyConnect …

So now I am wondering - is this an issue which is bound to my SkyConnect (like broken hardware)? Or maybe someone else also has this and might even already have a solution? (Maybe it is also just because all of this is still beta, but still playing around with it is kind of funny :D)

Thank you so much
Matthias

I’m trying to patient with development of Matter on HA, but I’m having the same issue. Have you found a solution?

The following community thread came up with a work-around for this problem:

I wanted to chime in to say that this is now working for me without any weird workarounds. I am using SkyConnect for Thread, iPhone, with the Eve Energy smart outlet.

This flow does somehow register Eve Energy credentials in Apple Home, but Apple Home is not able to connect for me. I guess it doesn’t know how to connect via HA’s border router.

No HomePod or Apple TV for Thread.

What seems to have made the difference is:

  1. On my phone, integration Thread → Service ThreadConfigure to show border routers
    • this showed 1 border router
  2. three dots ⋮ on the border router → Use for Android + iOS credentials
  3. Below the border router, Send credentials to phone
  4. In the bottom right button, Send credentials to home assistant

Actually I also right-clicked on the border router, reset it, removed the old one, and then did the steps with the new one. But I don’t know if all those steps were necessary.

Then, I could go to IntegrationsAdd Matter device and the flow just worked and I can see my Eve Energy in Home Assistant.

Glad to hear this worked. They just came out with this “send credentials to phone” for iOS, which is what was needed to get iOS Companion App to work for commissioning devices directly to HA Thread/Matter. Can’t wait to try it out myself  .
