I am trying to configure Home Assistant on my Ubuntu laptop with a virtualbox vdi image. I have followed the instructions as well. Bridged the network adapter of VM to my wireless adapter on my laptop.
When the VM (re)starts, the home assistant is available on homeassistant.local:8123. After a few minutes this is no more accessible. Looks like mDNS stopped working?
I’ve tried this multiple times on different VMs, on Homeassistant versions 5.13 and 6.0. I have tried all possible options available for network adapters in Virtual Box. No luck yet.
Any recommendations about how to get this working?
This is a somewhat familiar problem with bridge interfaces combined with UDP multicast/broadcasting (IGMP). You should disable multicast snooping on your virtualbox bridge interface.
@alonjr : Unfortunately no. After a lot of reading and unsuccessful attempts - tried disabling multicast snooping etc - I realized it was just more reliable to get Home Assistant installed on a RPi 4, natively.
Got a RPi4 8 GB, installed Home Assistant and am chugging away now. It has been reliable too.
Would love to hear about ways in which we can get Home Assistant installed and running in a VM, though.
