Migrate from generic x86-64 to HA Yellow, any benefit to starting fresh?

I am planning on migrating from my current install of Home Assistant, which is a VM using the generic x86-64 image, to Home Assistant Yellow. Two questions I have:

  1. Is there any benefit to starting fresh? My install is about 4-5 years old, but I am up-to-date (2023.2.2 as of writing this). I don’t have many integrations (around 20), and 4 add-ons (MariaDB being one of them).
  2. If I did want to start fresh, the only thing I would want to keep are the energy statistics. Would there be any way to restore from backup the energy statistics?

Thank you!

Hi @flyingmoose

Most of the time we only make changes to solve problems or improve things.

What problem are you trying to solve? What are you trying to improve?

There is but it’s not a huge benefit.

You have likely leaned a lot since you started, and new and improved ways of doing things have been introduced over this time.

So starting fresh gives you the opportunity to make things more efficient, start with a good naming scheme, remove a lot of “patched up code”, etc…

It can be a lot of work though.

So if everything is working well now you have to weigh up the effort required.
