Migrating from Zwave JS to Zwave JS UI?

A few weeks ago when I started with HA I did not know better and started adding Zwave devices to the standard Zwave JS. I have now learned that the JS UI is much more powerful with new features. I installed the Add on and it detected my ZOOZ stick but that’s about it. Seems I would need to start all over again from scratch with all of my Zwave devices ? Is there a proper way to migrate from one to the other ? Thankfully I did not have many battery operated Zwave devices so it was a PIA but not super difficult to add everything back in via Zwave JS

Check out this guide

I then used the steps outlined here to move all my devices over and rename them

Pay special attention to the instructions in the top guide as I was confused a bit.

There is a big difference between Z-Wave JS ADD-ON and the Z-Wave JS UI ADD-ON. Both of these can interact with the Z-Wave integration.

Both cannot be running at the same time. As long as you’re using only one at a time, they should operate the same way. I’m a fan of the Z-Wave JS UI as it gives some more options for adjusting settings but to each their own.

LMAO thinking it may be easier for me since I am going whole hog here to buy maybe a YELLO or something and start from scratch vs hosing up my green. Once I got yellow working just wipe my green out and resell it.

I hate the idea of messing something up in my system and knocking it down for a few days. BUT then again any battery powered devices would still need to be re-paired.

It’s a colon clincher BUT I am doing it now… HOPEFULLY I don’t trash it even though I did do a backup. Up to the .ZIP file part. I had previously installed the UI but I just uninstalled it to reinstall again in case I did anything wrong previously.

Thankfully those steps are rather straight forward. I was able to run through it all in about 20 minutes and everything came back online without an issue.

Biggest thing is to ensure you copy all your security keys and make a backup before attempting. Otherwise you will need to rebuild your network.

I am at the end but the S2 authenticated key and unauthenticated key headings are in red and they say keys must be different. They are, is it just a general warning or a warning to the input I just entered.

I think it’s been successful BUT I do have 2 devices ZOOZ Outdoor Motion sensors that are showing unknown product. How do I wake up these 2 remotely on the UI, I knew on the other one but don’t see anything obvious on this one. Seems your procedure so far is FLAWLESS.

Sadly 2 devices are not coming up but somewhat working, I have removed the batteries and still no luck re-interviewing.

I give up… I fail at step 9 I have tried for over an hour now and tried other things. I think the OS has changed slightly and causing issues OR a step is missing. I can get as far as this point but cant go to the Link for Z-Wave JS config nor can I get to the CONFIGURE in the HUBS card.

Go to Link to Z-Wave JS configuration – My Home Assistant or manually select Z-Wave, then CONFIGURE in the Hubs card. Check for “Z-Wave Network Connected” (1) and the ensure the Server URL (2) is set to the above ZUI URL.

What URL displays when you try to connect? Assuming you’re using the default config for Z-Wave JS UI, it should be like this:

I never even got to that screen. I went drastic… I wiped out the entire HA Green! I only have 2 devices that are battery operated that I care about, the other are water sensors that can wait till I get time.

BUT now I am back at a clean slate with Zigbee added, trying to figure out how to add Zwave devices via the UI. Not as easy as Zigbee was. It’s not even detecting the ZOOZ USB stick automatically.

So you’ll want to get into the habit of only adding your zwave devices via the JS UI

Click on Manage nodes

Then click inclusion and follow your normal steps. It’s not as clean as the zwave JS add-on but once you get past it’s quirks, there are more options for interacting with your devices settings.

Then you can use the main Z-wave integration for device naming to refer to them more explicitly in any automations you create.

You got this

It gave me errors then cleared out… let me try again and screen capture.

When you go to your Z-Wave settings

Do you have any security keys listed?

These should match all the keys from your old system

One ahead of you I thought it would re-generate since it’s a fresh install but it did not. I did save them and I am in the process of adding items back in but a lot of stuff is coming back odd… Product codes unknown and such. I just added Motion Sensor 1 and it was fine, put it outside and disappeared again. but this one is a thermometer right on my lap. And it was added and then disappeared, going to add it again.

If you were wanting to re-add everything, then generating new keys would be the way to go.

If you were migrating everything over using your existing keys, that would retain their information (along with routes I believe)

What do you mean about it disappearing? Once you have the devices added and awake, you can try re-interviewing them to pull in the information then rebuild routes once they are where you want them. Should effectively ‘heal’ the devices

Disappearing is odd, it shows under Zwave devices but does not show up under the Zwave UI. In this case Motion Sensor 1 and Even after a Re-Interview Motion Sensor 2 is showing unknown product although it’s a ZOOZ just like the other motion sensor.

Issues with the web page, I had to refresh a few times and it popped up BUT it still shows unknown product even after rescanning them all over again.

rescan is not a command in Z-wave-JS UI. What are you actually doing?
