Migration from Aeotec Z-Stick Gen7 to ZWA-2 - all devices unkown

Hey there,

did anyone already manage to migrate from Z-Stick Gen 7 (FW/SDK: 7.11) to ZWA-2?
After following the instructions I end up with Zwave JS UI looking like this:

Anyone have a hint on how to successfully migrate?

Hi Sasha,
I’m currently working on changing my Z-Wave controller (from Z-Stick Gen 7 (FW/SDK: 7.11) to ZWA-2), and your problem exactly matches the concerns I’m currently having: Is the migration running smoothly and without issues?

May I ask which HA hardware, which Z-Wave add-on, and how many Z-Wave devices you’re using?

My HA runs on a HAgreen; I exclusively use the Z-Wave JS UI add-on and currently manage about 90 Z-Wave devices.

Having to retrain or interview all of them during a migration would be catastrophic.

Hi desmo,

at the moment it’s not smooth. But good news: You can rollback to the Z-Stick if you end up on the same path as I ended up ^^
I use HA-OS as a VM inside Proxmox and manage around 20+ devices, running Z-Wave JS UI.
I also opened a ticket. As soon as I make any progress I will let you know

Hello Sascha,
Thanks for your reply. “Rollback” is a good point.
Did you perform it using the restore function in the NVM management of Z-Wave JS UI?

Would restoring a system backup also work? Do you know?

I just replugged the Zstick and set the device back in the settings.

Good news. I woke up with the idea to try updating the firmware of the Z-Stick 7 before trying to migrate. And that did the trick. After that the migration worked like a charm. <3

So for everyone reading this with the same issue: Check your Z-Stick firmware. If it is 7.11 consider updating to the latest version and migrate after that.

Thank You very much for sharing this information with us.
I am running a Z-Stick 7 with firmware 7.18.1.
Do I have to update first too?

I never updated because my system is running fine with over 50 Z-Wave devices.
To update from 7.18.1 to the latest version 7.21.6 is quiet a lot of work y would like to avoid.

:+1: Congrats
And thanks for the valuable tip.

I can’t tell because I didn’t test it in the step between. But the update really is pretty easy and not taking much time.
