I’m in the process to migrate my HA from the HA Yellow to a Thinkcentre Tiny with Proxmox. Both will run on HA OS.
I have now the following questions how to migrate best my matter/thread network which is using currently the build in Radio of the HA Yellow.
My planned steps would be
1.) Backup the HA on the HA Yellow
2.) Restore HA on Proxmox
3.) Now I somehow need to migrate the radio for Thread
a. do I need to delete the whole matter/thread server integration with addons and start from scratch?
- would I need to reset the Thread devices (EVE Energy)?
b. or can I alternatively migrate the radio to the new radio (similar to Zigbee)? The new Radio will be a Smlight SLZB-6M version
- If so how would I do that?
Is the SLZB-6M able to be integrated via LAN over just via USB?
Many thanks for your help

E.g. I’m using plotly-graphs which take up to 20 seconds to display. Also if I use music assistant slow an not very snappy. I have unfortunately only 2 GB memory which also leads to problems compiling ESP Home Code.
I had the choice to upgrade the CM or to invest in something more powerful with little implication on power consumption (it currently consumes 5 W for an i5).
Simon triggered with his proxmox video my decision and I’m currently in the process of migration.,
But I don’t want this to become a thread for discussions of the pro and cons of HA yellow vs. other hardware please.
So does anybody have an idea how e.g. to migrate thread radio from inside the HA yellow to an external radion as a first step of the migration?
So, to update others,
I have migrated my HA from the Yellow to Proxmox. Performance is really great, but with the costs that the power consumption peaks at 30W on short periods.
I had several issues when migrating, one which suddenyl occurred when I (before migration) switched from ZHA to Zigbee2MQTT (following Simon42 video). I sudddenly had issues with “Interface Raspberrymatic-HmIP-RF not reachable” - although control of the homemtic devices worked from Raspberrymatic add-on. I haven’t found really a solution, but with several reboots and a Reset Callback Host [re-entering the CCU hostname from (Raspberrymatic add-on) in the Homematic-IP (local) configuration and entering a space on the “CCU Hostname” (same page) field, followed by “OK” once the connection of the homematic(IP) local], showed a correct reconnect message.
To summarized I did
Preperation on HA Yellow:
1.) moved Thread radio from HA Yellow intern to extern SLZB-06M via ethernet POE
2.) moved Zigbee radio from USB with Skyconnect to extern SLZB-06M via ethernet POE
3.) migrated ZHA to Zigbee2MQTT (See simon42 youtube video)
4.) Full Backup of HA on yellow
On ThinkCenter Tiny with Poxmox:
5.) Restored HA on Proxmox (setup of proxmox see simon42 video also)
of course feedthrough USB Port (via vendor ID) - HmRF-Stick connected via USB
here I had also several issues - also with the message “Interface Raspberrymatic-HmIP-RF not reachable”
the trick with the Reset Callback Host, described above, did not work.
but what worked, was to restart the virtual machine in proxmox
Hope that this helps the one or other wanting to do similar steps.

I just did this myself. From a Yellow (started with CM4 lite and moved to CM5 lite w/NVME drive) with onboard Zooz800 and an ext USB Sonoff_Zigbee_3.0_USB_Dongle_Plus. Migrated to a Asus NUC with Proxmox and three USB sticks: Zooz800LR, USB Sonoff and Bluetooth all behind a powered USB 2.0 hub and long shielded cables to spread out all three radios. Full backup on the yellow (unencrypted local copy, downloaded it to my laptop) but i didn’t use it. I used my Nubu login and recovered from the cloud to the proxmox vm using instructions from https://www.derekseaman.com/2023/10/home-assistant-proxmox-ve-8-0-quick-start-guide-2.html - note the links to the community scripts have all changed for the scripts, again. USB sticks needed exposed to the vm in proxmox and the configs for the radios needed changing for the new paths. Zigbee stuff came right up - didn’t loose anything. Z-Wave was a PITA as I was unfamiliar with the NVM recovery menu. After some time surfing reddit I finally figured that out and restored from my last nvm backup file. At least I was smartish enough to setup regular NVM backups for the Sonoff when I moved from ZHA to Z2M.
I didn’t really have to do this upgrade as the yellow as more than enough for my smallish setup. It is nice seeing ESPhome rebuilds just fly by and HA is overall a bit more snappy. I also wanted to do some other stuff that didn’t need real hardware and vm’s are the way. I already manage hundreds of vms at work so this is trivial for me.
