Migration to MQTT from ZHA

Hi Team,

I am sure this has been asked a million times, but in my searching, I have not found anything.
Apologies in advance.

I have found lots of videos on starting with MQTT and lots of videos suggesting there are more options with MQTT, however what if you already have 30 devices in ZHA and want to migrate to MQTT?

Is there a guide on how to do this? In particular, can I migrate my devices from ZHA to MQTT so I don’t have to pair them again?
I tried to install MQTT alongside ZHA and I think??? You can’t use the same CONBEE II stick for both services?

I am sure you can imagine the questions…

You can use a coordinator only once. Either in ZHA or Z2M or Phoscon.
If it’s only 30 devices simply start from scratch with Z2M and repair the devices.
Maybe before doing so think about ditching the crappy Conbee II and get a decent CC2652(P) coordinator instead.

IMO, the best way to migrate is to get a second coordinator, run both integrations side by side, then migrate devices one by one.

For z2m, a cc2652 coordinator is best. The TI chipset is what the primary z2m dev uses (and maintains the most popular firmware for). The TI chip will likely always be first among peers for z2m.

ZHA now has limited support to restore a z2m zigbee network backup, but z2m doesn’t have the same for ZHA. For now the ZHA support seems like it’s more trouble than it’s worth. Devices aren’t discovered until they check in with the coordinator and are added back into HA with generic names. It could take longer to match up HA entities to physical devices and rename them than to just pair them from the start.

Given i am in Australia, any recommendations on a good coordinator? I know there is a big list on the Z2M page, but Im looking for recommendations based on experience

Thanks

Any coordinator based on the CC2652 chipset.
They are using the same Koenkk firmware so it really doesn’t matter. I’m using a ZigStar v4 for my main Zigbee network on Z2M and a TubeSZ LAN-coordinator on ZHA in my garage Zigbee network. Both devices simply work as expected.

@anon94216691 just noticed something after I order a new dongle. What is the difference between P & E Dongles from Sonoff? I has the chipset you mentioned.
I Ordered:

Hi @stephang
the CC2652P has an integrated amplifier for 20db antenna gain so it’s more powerful.
Your ordered Sonoff Plus gateway contains this CC2652P.

Not per the specs. The difference is TI (P) vs SI Labs (E) chips. Both are +20db chips.

I believe the E firmware defaults to +20db, the community P firmware defaults to +9db, so the E is likely the more powerful “out of the box.”

As previously stated, for z2m the TI is the better supported chip (for now). Both are well supported under ZHA.
