Using a pro-hub and the Caseta-pro component that uses telnet to connect to the hub.
All I can say so far is holy shit it’s fast to trigger lights; but more importantly to update HA when a manual light event occurs. So far no more refresh or weird logic needed to keep the GUI state correct.
A side benefit is by removing ~43 Zwave devices the system has had a meaningful reduction of the 1, 5, and 15 minute loads. Running on a NUC so not a big deal; but a bit shocking how much load the zwave stack was consuming. On a rPI this is likely a huge different - and why I moved off a rPI. Load went from a fairly consistent ~0.4 to <0.1 and temps dropped considerably too.
Yes, they have a good product that is well tested and complete and they certainly charge for that.
But if I consider the time wasted on bullshit zwave products and troubleshooting it’s probably a break even. I have a bucket of stuff that I bought as I avoided the Caseta due to cost and being propreitary only to end up buying it eventually…
