I am thinking about moving my Home Assistant setup off an old Raspberry Pi and onto a small x86 mini PC. The minisforum ai x1 caught my eye: Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 with 12 cores and 24 threads, 80 TOPS of AI performance, Radeon 890M graphics, up to 128GB of DDR5, and three M.2 SSD slots with up to 12TB of storage. It also has dual 2.5GbE LAN, WiFi 7, dual USB4 at 40Gbps, and an OCuLink port.
For a home server that also handles cameras and add-ons, that looks like plenty of headroom. My main questions are about running it 24/7. How is the idle power draw, and does the fan stay quiet at low load? I would run Home Assistant OS, probably with Frigate and a media server as add-ons. Has anyone here run the AI X1, or a similar Minisforum mini PC, as a Home Assistant host? Any tips on storage setup or things to watch for with the M.2 slots?
