Minoston MP21ZP - Firmware Information

Hi,
I am currently in the process of submitting a PR to correctly identify a MP31ZP in zwavejs2mqtt, however upon diagnosis, the device identifier for the 31 is the same as the 21.
To help, it’s been requested that we get the device firmware information from a 21, to compare to the 31, to allow zwavejs2mqtt to be able to differentiate between the two.

Does anyone here have the MP21ZP to hand to be able to get the firmware information?

Thanks in advance!

I have quite a few of these MP21Z’s and one of them happens to be the ZP. What are you looking for that I can help with?

Here’s my ZWave-JS firmware info for the ZP.

By the way, I HATE these devices, I have a huge failure rate on them and their distance is garbage. Going back to Dome’s.

Thanks, I posted the data in the PR, i will let you know if they need anything else?

RE: Failure rates
Domes?
I got a 31ZP last week to do some initial playing around with Z-Wave, seems fine. Have you had any 31’s fail?

I’ve tried across the spectrum because they are cheap and in-stock everywhere, 21’s and 31’s have failed and often drop off the Z-Wave network entirely in places my other Z-Wave devices (of which I have many) are fine.

Minoston has also gotten under my skin because apparently they have stolen designs from, in my opinion, the best Z-Wave device make out there - Inovelli. Apparently they partnered up together for some things and Minoston just stole their designs and ran.

Fair enough.
What outlets (with energy monitoring) are you using now then?

The only ones I’ve found to be very reliable are the Dome units (so far). I’ve also installed actual Z-Wave outlets by Leviton but they have also been quite problematic, so back to the Dome plug-in modules again for now.

Can you link to a dome device please?
Searched around and nothing comes up…

So many of these Chinese companies change their name frequently, this is the device that has worked well for me, there are a few varieties out there but they are all round, all. have the button above the outlet and may have colors or be all white.

Doesnt look like they identify in zwavejs’s database, looking at the model number for the gray one? (WR01ZU) ?
Are you using zwavejs2mqtt?

Yes, I am and have lots of these.

Interesting.
How often are you getting power data in from these? Does it poll reasonably quick?

These devices are also problematic. The vendor doesn’t seem to provide any support. Might be fine if you aren’t using energy reporting.

It’s configurable, but it’s been reliable. That being said, they also send anomalous readings sometimes (i.e., millions of kWh), so I use PowerCalc (HACS add-on) for everything now, the wattage is precise but the kWh is iffy, PowerCalc fixes that for me.

Yup, same here, I use PowerCalc to overcome the bad kWh readings I get and then I disable the kWh meter on the device entirely.

Does any outlet with energy monitor work right whatsoever? :-p

I don’t think so, LOL. But, so long as there is a way around the problem and the device is otherwise reliable then it’s good enough for me for now.

I’m curious as to if these are good/reliable:

Personally I don’t know, I’m not a huge fan of the WiFi stuff, I like to stick to the Z-Wave/Zigbee/Insteon type protocols. Rule of thumb, though, is make sure it’s supported in HA before you pull the trigger on it. Search the forums and if you don’t see anything about it then it’s likely either very obscure or maybe not supported yet.
